Service

Mobile App Development

Mobile applications built for iOS and Android, from concept through to store release.

What this service covers

An app earns its place when the job needs a camera, location, notifications, offline access, or simply working from a home screen. A well-built responsive website already covers most other cases, and we will say so rather than sell you an app you do not need.

Where an app is right, we take it from concept through design and build to submission in the Apple App Store and Google Play, and then to the updates it needs afterwards.

Why it matters

Problems this solves

Apps tend to be commissioned because a mobile problem could not be solved another way. Each of these is a case where a dedicated app genuinely is the answer.

  • The website is not enough on a phone

Customers drop out on mobile because the experience is cramped or slow, and there is no practical way to fix that inside a browser tab.

  • Work happens without a connection

Field work, site visits or inspections happen where the signal does not. Data captured on paper has to be re-keyed later.

  • The business needs to be visible in the stores

Presence in the app stores is expected by customers and often required by partners, tenders or internal policy.

  • Notifications need to reach people

Order updates, reminders and alerts only work reliably through an installed app, and email is too slow for many of them.

  • Device behaviour keeps breaking

Something works on the developer's phone and fails on the rest. Wide device coverage has to be planned for, not discovered later.

Scope

What you receive

Store submission is included, but the project is not complete until the app is accepted. Review timing sits outside our control and is flagged as such.

  • A written recommendation on native versus cross-platform, with the reasoning stated
  • App architecture and data model agreed before build
  • Interfaces designed for the constraints of small screens
  • Test builds shared for review before release
  • Store listing assets and copy prepared for submission
  • Submission to the Apple App Store and Google Play
  • Crash reporting and a monitored release path for updates
  • Handover covering how to build, submit and roll back

Capabilities

Features and options

App scope is set by device constraints as much as by features. The device matrix and offline behaviour are agreed before build starts.

  • Cross-platform delivery

One codebase covering both platforms where that suits the requirements, with the trade-offs explained up front.

  • Offline and sync

Work captured without a connection, reconciled cleanly once the device reconnects.

  • Push notifications

Scheduled and event-driven notifications, with consent handling that respects platform rules.

  • Authentication

Sign-in suited to the audience, including social sign-in and multi-factor where the data warrants it.

  • API integration

The app working against your live systems, with clear behaviour when a request fails.

  • Store readiness

Screenshots, descriptions, privacy declarations and age ratings prepared for review.

Process

How a project runs

Mobile is where the UI/UX stage carries the most weight. Small screens, one-handed use, permissions and offline states all change what an interface needs to be, and those constraints are much cheaper to design around than to retrofit.

Technology

Chosen to fit the requirement

Technology decisions follow the problem being solved. Where a requirement has a trade-off, we explain the options rather than choosing silently.

Questions

Frequently asked

Questions we are commonly asked about mobile app development.

Ask something else
Should the app be native or cross-platform?

It depends on what the app actually does. Where one codebase can cover both platforms without compromise, that is usually the better business decision. Where the app depends heavily on device-specific features or needs maximum performance, native may be justified. We recommend one and explain why rather than defaulting to either.

How do you handle App Store and Google Play submission?

We prepare the listing, screenshots and privacy declarations, and handle submission and any review queries. Both stores review apps before they are public, and review periods are outside our control. If an app is rejected we address the reason and resubmit.

What does it cost to maintain an app after launch?

Running costs such as developer accounts are separate from build cost. Ongoing work is needed when operating systems change, when APIs you depend on change, or when you want new features. We explain what an update cycle involves and quote it separately — it should be a planned budget line, not a surprise.

Will the app work without a connection?

Where the use case requires it, yes. We design explicit offline behaviour — what is captured, what is queued and what happens when the device reconnects. For some apps offline support adds real cost, so it is scoped as its own decision rather than assumed.

Which devices will you test on?

A representative range of current devices and operating system versions, including smaller screens and different screen sizes, chosen to cover your actual audience. The exact matrix is agreed during planning and stated in the scope.
